The McAfee spyware program McAfee Virus Scan has been a large competitor in the computer protection arena for quite some time. McAfee VirusScan is more for home computers whereas corporate computers are the target market for the VirusScan Enterprise program.
McAfee VirusScan is part of the McAfee VirusScan Plus package and also as part of the McAfee Internet Security Suite. The Mac computer users can use McAfee through the use of their Mac Os X program.
The McAfee Virus Scan Plus package contains programming for antivirus service, firewall protection and anti-spyware work. The McAfee spyware protection can be used to actively protect against incoming spyware as well as searching for resident spyware that is already on your computer. McAfee Virus Scan Plus performs detailed file scanning to look for various types of malware. The firewall protection includes both outbound and inbound protection.
With the exception of weekends, McAfee Virus Scan Plus used to provide daily updates to the definition database. It now appears that McAfee provides 24/7 updates as new problems are identified and solutions are developed to protect against them.
McAfee Virus Scan Plus includes pop-up reminders that occur daily and occur even when running full screen application and games. The interruptions may be limited by placing your software into McAfee’s Do Not Disturb mode so that you will not be interrupted while watching a movie for example.
McAfee Virus Scan Plus provides rootkit detection via its X-Ray functioning. Individual websites are rated for safety based on their estimated potential and tests for phishing scams, malware and spam. McAfee Virus Scan Plus also reviews computer activity for indications that the computer may have become infected with a virus or hacker software.
